David Muckalt

Welcome to Burnage Rugby Club #agreatplacetobe.  As I begin my 6th season at the Club and now in the role of Director of Rugby, I am immensely proud to be associated with a great Community Club.

At Burnage Rugby Club we are proud of our rugby heritage. Our core values of friendship, inclusivity and equality allows us to thrive for excellence both on and off the field. We provide a community rugby programme for all players from Mini/Jnr Rugby age groups through to three adult teams. No matter what level of rugby you aspire to play our strong culture of togetherness makes this a great club to belong too.

Our Senior Performance Squad (1st XV and 2nd XV) represent the pinnacle of Men’s Rugby at Burnage. The Club has a strong commitment to retaining the traditional values of the game whilst investing in facilities, coaching and support staff that rival any semi-professional club. With the 1st XV playing at RFU level 5 and the 2nd XV playing in the Northern Premier League, the competition for a place in both squads epitomises the strength of the club. This, alongside a newly laid 4G playing surface for 2022-23 season provides all players with the opportunity to train and play in a fantastic surrounding. We very much welcome all new players to Burnage Rugby Club whether it is pursuit of a new rugby challenge or due to a relocation to the area. You will always receive a warm welcome and instantly feel part of the Club.

In the 6 seasons I have been at the Club, initially as Head Coach and now DOR, I have been proud to be part of the 1st XV’s return to level 5 the 2nd XVs return to the Northern Premier league and the 3rd XVs promotion to Division 3 South. We pride ourselves on the development of players with aspirations to play at a higher level whilst also providing a challenging rugby environment for those players who find this the right level to play at to balance the demands of work, life and rugby.

Our Social / Community squad achieved promotion in 2022 and will ply their trade in NOWIRUL The Right Broker Division 3 South. The Social Team are very much the heart of the Club. A collection of players ranging from former National League players to casual social players who have a love of the game, give this XV a unique blend of experience and enthusiasm. The squad places less emphasis on training but for those players who want to attend a weekly session, access to the Performance Squad Coaching team is always available.

There is a strong sense of togetherness in the social scene at the Club with Family Days, Band and Disco Nights and Club dinners.
These monthly events bring together the squads, their partners, and their families throughout the season to thank and celebrate all our achievements together.
