Match Luncheons

Good prep health lunch

Pre 1st XV league match luncheons

Back in the mists of time, well actually season 2011-12, when our lovely Club first entered the National League structure, we started offering members the opportunity to take lunch prior to 1st XV home league games. Part of the social protocol in National League rugby is hosting the opposition President and 5 of their committee members. And we openly invite their spectators to buy lunch packages too. We are also hoping to swell our dining ranks with corporate tables too, all adding to a great atmosphere in the lead-up to the game. It’s a great opportunity to enjoy a conversation with like-minded people from other clubs. I have attended many of these lunches and met some very interesting people.

The number of people taking the opportunity to have a pre-match lunch has not always been at capacity, other than for special occasions. So, the committee would like to widen the appeal and increase the attendance at pre-match lunches, by our members. It’s worth noting that there has been an increase in the number of couples attending, usually 4 or 5 Club members and their better halves. There isn’t a “dress code” as such, some wear stripy blazers, some wear Club polo shirts – it really doesn’t matter.

Lunches are delicious and well presented. Two or Three courses plus wine. With us now adopting the services of a local restaurant quality caterer to provide hot food on the day, ensuring our staff numbers and resources are fully equipped to cope with food service and a busy bar simultaneously. (Note – different dietary choices are catered for, pescatarian and vegetarian op are the obvious ones.)

An open invitation to join us for lunch is included in the Club e-mail which is sent out prior to each home league game. The details are regularly shared on the Club Facebook and Twitter accounts and the Club website.

Let’s make pre-match lunch at Burnage a special event for every 1st team home game this season.
