Kid-Friendly Parties at Burnage Rugby Club: Ideas and Activities

Planning a party for the little ones is a tricky task. How do you even begin to keep 30+ kids entertained for at least an hour, maybe more? Well, we’ve come up with a list of helpful ideas and activities to help you get the ball rolling. If you’re struggling for a venue, Burnage Rugby Club is a fab place to host, with plenty of outdoor space for running around or even a bouncy castle…

DIY Craft Stations

Craft stations can be an excellent idea for “organised fun”. You could set up two or three separate stations where kids can create their own party favours. Such as – a minimally messy idea – you could get them to create their own superhero masks or paint rocks or jars. But, if you’re up for a bigger clean up job then other ideas are to decorate your own cupcakes or  friendship bracelets.

I myself remember going to a spray painting birthday party, but that definitely would mean bringing in a professional to help set everything up. Craft stations keep the kids engaged and gives them something to take home.

Scavenger Hunts

Another great idea is some sort of treasure hunt. Especially if you are having a themed party such as pirates. Burnage Rugby Club has a great outdoor space, covered seating areas in case the weather decides to turn, and 11 acres of land with plenty of places where clues could be hidden to lead them to the final “treasure” which could be a chest with sweets inside, or it could be full of party bags. Whatever the treasure, you can design your own map and don’t forget, ‘X’ marks the spot!

Interactive Entertainment

This is an option that means you as an adult can take a step back for a bit. Hire a professional. There are a selection of magicians, puppet show performers or (everybody’s favourite) Disney princesses and princes. Leave the entertaining to them for a bit and watch the kids’ eyes light up as they get to meet their heroes. A very well recommended site for princess visits or for a bit more money is ‘Princess Impersonations’.  I’ve been assured they also do superheroes as well. https://www.princessimpersonations.co.uk/home-stockport  Or if your kid is dying to meet their favourite supervillain, https://www.theprincesspartyexperience.co.uk/  comes highly recommended along with https://www.enchantedeventsmanchester.com/ who include The Adams Family character ‘Wednesday’!

Classic Party Games

We all remember the classic party games such as pin the tail on the donkey or musical statues. Or that annoying one where a present is wrapped up a hundred times and gets passed around the circle until someone eventually wins something. Well, these games can be altered to fit with whatever interests your child has. Instead of pin the tail on the donkey, what about ‘Pin the crown on the princess’? Or musical chairs can become musical thrones. Revisiting the classics has never been a bad idea.

Obstacle Courses

Bouncy Castles will always be a big hit at birthday parties (even when you’re older) but you do need a bigger set up space. Which is another reason Burnage rugby Club is ideal, we have big grounds that could fit as many bouncy castles as you want. However, if you’re having the party at home and your garden isn’t too big, you can set up your own obstacle course. You can use hula hoops, cones, pool noodles and pop out tunnels to create an equally fun course. Creating teams also creates some friendly competition.

Remember if you do choose to use bouncy castles or obstacle courses, you will need to keep a closer eye on the kiddies.

Calm Down Corners and Quiet Activities

Sometimes parties can be a little overwhelming – as we all know – and the same is true for the little ones. So, creating a “calm down corner” with cosy pillows, books, and toys for kids who might feel overwhelmed isn’t a bad idea. You can include quiet activities like colouring books, puzzles, or a reading nook to help all the kids feel safe and welcome. You could even have an adult reading stories as a nice touch.

Whatever the theme is, don’t be overly ambitious. Only a couple of hours and your kids will have memories for life.

Make sure you have at least five activities planned out, and try not to look at the clock too much. Remember some of the time will be taken up by food and at Burnage we have great catering options. Click the link below to find out how we can help with your kids’ birthday parties.
