You’ve done the family holiday; you’ve worked your entire summer around making the kids happy – here are some things to do over the bank holiday weekend that are just for the adults! 

This is the last bank holiday before Christmas and the end of the summer, so the pressure is on to have as much fun as you can, or die trying! Lots of people go away for the weekend, as their idea of fun is sitting in a cramped car for hours in a motorway traffic jam. If you have decided to stay in Manchester, there is plenty going on in the city to keep you entertained. 

There is a choice of local festivals and fun that you can check in on:


Burnage Rugby Club Car Boot

It is the last Car Boot of the season, so make sure you go through your cupboards and get rid of all the clutter while you have the chance! Not quite a festival, but definitely good fun and The best car boot in the area! Cars £10/pitch. Opens at 6am. Find out more at:

Manchester Pride Festival: Gay Village Party
–  Manchester’s iconic LBGTQ event 23rd-26th August, Manchester Gay Village in Manchester.

Expect lots of fun and lots of great outfits! There is a parade and many performances, some of them even on stage! You can see some of it for free, but to be part of the whole shenanigans you must have a ticket. They are very reasonably priced, and much of the money goes to the charity. For more details visit:

Moovin Festival
– If you fancy come groovin, get down to Moovin! 23rd-26th August, Whitebottom farm, Etherow Country Park, Compstall, Marple Bridge, Stockport SK6 5JQ

An intimate festival of just 5000 people, it really is a pleasure to visit. Adults only.

The Blues Kitchen

Bolton Food and Drink Festival
– Bolton town centre 23rd-26th August

If you like food you will definitely want to get up to Bolton over the bank holiday weekend. With loads of food stalls, some ticketed events, a bit of live music, and a smattering of arts it is well worth a visit. There are a lot of family oriented things here as well.
